Introducing ABBA k_3

The ABBA k_3 is a fitting system designed to diagnostically fit all keratoconus patients. From the very early stages to the most extreme, the k_3 will be able to accommodate the eye care professional in treating keratoconus. What is unique about the ABBA k_3 is that it utilizes three different designs for each stage of keratoconus.

The Comfort Zone, an aspheric lens, is best suited for early kone patients. Because in the early stages, the cornea's shape is between spherical and conical, a larger diameter lens (9.5 - 11.5) benefits the patient. Keratoconus is often diagnosed in the adolescent years, or before any other visual deficiency, and is frequently the first time the patient has worn contact lenses. The Comfort Zone is an aspheric thin lens design with a large diameter, all factors that contribute to comfort, especially for first time wearers.

is a lens that was specifically designed for the conical cornea. The ABBAKone is also aspheric in design and is suited for moderate to advanced stages of keratoconus. The design can be made very steep and the diameters are variable. Initial suggestions start at 8.4 - 8.8. A unique feature of ABBAKone is the ability to adjust the eccentricity. Variable eccentricities become incredibly vital when trying to fine tune the fit of a conical cornea.

In extreme cases of keratoconus, the Semi-Scleral is an excellent design. When the cornea becomes so conical that even the steepest kone lenses cannot fit, the Semi-Scleral lens can. The large 13.5 diameter lens has a history of fitting some very difficult cases and will become a savior to many eye care professionals.

Though frequently thought of as a rare condition, keratoconus is the most common dystrophy of the cornea, affecting around one person in a thousand, and it seems to occur equally in all ethnic groups worldwide.

Keratoconus is a degenerative non-inflammatory disorder of the eye in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a more conical shape than its normal gradual curve. Keratoconus can cause substantial distortion of vision, with multiple images, streaking and sensitivity to light all often reported by the patient. It is typically diagnosed in the patient's adolescent years and attains its most severe state in the twenties and thirties.

The k_3 system can be placed in the ECP's office ultimately free of charge. The initial price for the k_3 system is $1,200. However, ABBA will deduct 20% of all GPs ordered by the ECP each month. ABBA will do this for 12 full months or until 1,200 has been earned back.
